A Story of Courage, Community, and Healthy Aging

A home for active seniors who believe staying healthy, connected, and joyful has no age limit.

ABOUT US

Why Join Us.

Globally, over 1.8 billion adults (31%) are physically inactive, a trend that’s rising and contributes significantly to chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, arthritis, and mental health issues. In Kenya, 10.8% of adults are inactive, according to a national STEPwise survey.

Physical activity is essential for healthy aging—it improves heart health, strengthens muscles, boosts mental well-being, and reduces the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

To address this, the Kenya Grannies (Masters) Football Federation was founded by Dr. Elizabeth J. Keitany to provide older adults (aged 50+) with a fun, structured way to stay active through football. Our mission is to promote healthy aging, reduce age-related illnesses, and inspire a culture of fitness among senior citizens.

The Goal

Our Mission

To promote healthy aging and well-being among adults aged 50 and above by providing safe, inclusive, and structured football programs that enhance physical health, mental wellness, and community connection.

The Outlook

Our Vision

A society where older adults live active, healthy, and dignified lives—empowered through sport, connected to their communities, and free from age-related stereotypes.

OUR HISTORY

Where We Began

The Kenya Grannies (Masters) Football Federation (KGFF) was founded by Dr. Elizabeth J. Keitany, a community mobilizer passionate about healthy aging. Through her work, she witnessed the growing impact of physical inactivity, social isolation, and lifestyle diseases among older adults, especially women.

Inspired by the power of sport, she introduced football as a fun and empowering way for seniors to stay active and connected. What began as a small group of grannies playing for exercise in Elgeyo Marakwet County quickly grew into a powerful movement that challenged age stereotypes and inspired communities.

To support and expand this vision, KGFF was formally established and now works across multiple counties—organizing training, matches, health check-ups, and tournaments that promote active aging, wellness, and community engagement.
