Globally, over 1.8 billion adults (31%) are physically inactive, a trend that's rising and contributes significantly to chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, arthritis, and mental health issues. In Kenya, 10.8% of adults are inactive, according to a national STEPwise survey. Physical activity is essential for healthy aging—it improves heart health, strengthens muscles, boosts mental well-being, and reduces the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). To address this, the Kenya Grannies (Masters) Football Federation a pioneering sports organization registered under the Kenya Sports Act was founded by Dr. Elizabeth J. Keitany to provide older adults (aged 50+) with a fun, structured way to stay active through football. Our mission is to promote healthy aging, reduce age-related illnesses, and inspire a culture of fitness among senior citizens.
From grassroots matches across Kenya's counties to international tournaments such as the Grannies International Football Tournament (GIFT) in Limpopo, South Africa, KGFF proves that age is never a boundary — it is extra time on the pitch of life.
